about

Imagineer &  Storyteller

My writing style

Upmarket, with notes of literary. Character-driven. Intricate plots. Gritty realism.

I write character-driven historical fantasy romances with layered plots, complex relationships, and a strong sense of time and place. My stories explore the inner lives of my characters as deeply as the worlds they inhabit, blending magic and mythology with the grit, danger, and realities of their historical settings.

The result is fantasy rooted in human experience—not romantasy, but stories where love, magic, and destiny are woven into the lives of fully realized characters.

Inspirations

I’m fascinated by all kinds of love—the invisible threads that bind people and places together.

That curiosity is at the heart of my love for Arthurian legend, historical fantasy, and romance. I’m drawn to stories about seemingly ordinary people who discover extraordinary capabilities and must learn how those gifts affect their lives. I love watching characters overcome internal and external conflicts, and seeing how love can be both a source of strength and a catalyst for change.

Those are the mysteries that inspire me to write.

My Perspective

Truth is in details, the beautiful, unique, and subtle details!

My perspective is shaped by my values, my love of nature and the power of the Universe, and my belief that love is magic. These ideas find their way into every character and story I write.

When I’m not writing, editing, or proofreading, you’ll find me painting outdoors or in my studio, exploring art festivals, kayaking on a calm lake, reading a good book, or playing D&D with my long-time adventuring party.

Art Gallery

I’m primarily an oil and oil pastel painter, focused on waterscapes and landscapes. Check out my art website at sjmcreations.com.

Before I called myself a writer…

I was a corporate drone, working in internal communications, intranet management, web design, and eventually user experience design. Before that, I was a college student without a clue where I was going or who I wanted to become.

Looking back, every chapter taught me something. I learned that potential can be limitless when you find your path.

That belief shapes the stories I tell. I write about characters who discover their own strength, find the courage to express who they truly are, and ultimately choose the path that is theirs to follow.
